Community submission policy
This database is only as good as the community that maintains it. A few simple rules keep it useful and fair.
Do
- Submit accurate figures you have reason to believe are current.
- Use the structured fields — salary type, effective date, base vs total comp — so departments compare consistently.
- Attach a public source (pay plan, careers page, CBA/meet-and-confer) when you can. It isn’t required.
- Confirm existing information when it still looks right, and dispute it when it doesn’t.
Don’t
- Don’t upload personal pay stubs, employee numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information, private disciplinary records, or confidential personnel documents.
- Don’t upload documents you aren’t authorized to share.
- Don’t submit placeholder, test, joke, or deliberately misleading data.
- Don’t use free-form notes as a substitute for the structured salary fields.
How consensus works
Routine submissions publish automatically — the owner does not approve every update. Matching reports build confidence; conflicting reports stay visible and are labeled. Unusual changes (large jumps, out-of-range values, rapid multi-department activity) may be flagged for additional confirmation rather than deleted. Every submission is preserved as a revision.
Moderation
Administrators handle spam, abuse, and clearly fraudulent submissions, and can suspend accounts that break these rules. Suspicious information is placed in a flagged state, not silently removed. See the removal process for correction requests.
